Dr. Komadina is a Fellow of the American College of Ob-Gyn and a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He delivered his first baby in Albuquerque in 1966 and has delivered over 16,000 babies since then. He graduated with honors from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.
He then served as a missionary doctor in Katmandu, Nepal. After eight years of active duty in the U.S. Navy, he returned to his home town of Albuquerque, and began caring for the healthcare needs of women. Recognized as a leader by his fellow doctors, he has served as Hospital Chief of Staff, President of the Greater Albuquerque Medical Association, and a Councilor of the New Mexico State Medical Society and President of the New Mexico Medical Society. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Ob - Gyn, American Fertility Society, and Southwest Ob-Gyn Society. He has served as a member of the clinical faculty in the Department of Ob-Gyn at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, UCLA, UC San Diego and UC Irvine.
Six children and thirteen grandchildren, provide great happiness to him and his wife, Penny. They have a very close family all living in New Mexico, and place a priority on family relationships and responsibilities. They run a animal training farm in Corrales, and have a variety of animals living with them at Vista Hermosa Farm.
For over 40 years, he and his wife have been involved leading youths, adults and patients on trips and adventures all over the world. He has been a scout leader since 1965, and has produced many Eagle Scouts through his troops. He has been awarded by the Boy Scouts of America the Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, and National President's Scoutmaster Award of Merit. All of his sons are Eagle Scouts.
Dr. Komadina is very active in his church and has served as Bishop of his Ward and a member of the Stake High Council. He now travels the world on humanitarian missions teaching doctors, midwives and nurses how to resuscitate newborn babies and how to teach others to do the same.
Dr. Komadina no longer delivers babies but is dedicated to women’s health and the wellness of men, women and children. He lectures around the world on nutrition and natural approaches to elimination of disease. In 2000 he was elected a New Mexico State Senator and is now also involved in the crafting of laws to make his State a better and healthier place to live.
He can be seen piloting his special shape stork balloon, "Great Eggspectations", across the skies of Albuquerque. He has served on the board of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta since 1986 and has served as Vice President in 1997 and 1998 and was President in 2000. He was Medical Director for the Global Hilton and Spirit of Peace attempts to fly a balloon around the world.
At Women's Health Horizons, we want to be on the leading edge of health care delivery for our patients, symbolized by the rising sun. In addition, we continue to look for unexplored areas, which need to be addressed in delivery of education to our patients symbolized by the mountains. Last, we want to be gentle, quiet and peaceful as we deliver care, symbolized by our hot air balloon, "The Enchanted Stork."
